Used Tyres Gold Coast
Looking for quality second hand tyres on the Gold Coast without paying new-tyre prices? Southport Budget Tyres & Auto carries one of the largest used tyre ranges in the region, right here at 37 Egerton Street, Southport. Most customers are back on the road the same day.
A good used tyre is one of the most cost-effective purchases you can make for your car. If you are selling the vehicle soon, running an older second car, or replacing a single tyre that has copped a nail, buying new often does not make financial sense. What matters is that the tyre you fit is safe, legal and properly matched to the others on your car — and that is where we come in.
What we keep in stock
Our used tyre section moves fast, with different brands and sizes arriving daily. At any given time you will typically find:
- Passenger and family car tyres in all common sizes — see our passenger tyres range
- 4×4 and SUV tyres in highway, all-terrain and mud patterns — see 4×4 tyres
- Low profile and performance sizes for sports vehicles — see performance tyres
- Commercial tyres for vans and light trucks — see commercial vans & light trucks
Because stock turns over by the hour, the fastest way to check availability in your size is simply to call. If we do not have your size in used stock today, we can usually source it, or show you a budget new option instead.
Tread depth and safety — where we draw the line
This is the part that matters most, and it is where cheap used tyres get a bad name.
In Queensland, a tyre is only road legal with at least 1.5mm of tread across the tread face. A tyre sitting right on that limit is legal, but it has very little life left and noticeably less grip in the wet.
We do not sell tyres like that. Our used stock starts at 75% remaining tread and goes up. That means you are buying a tyre with the large majority of its working life still ahead of it, not one that will need replacing again in a few months.
Every used tyre is also checked before it goes on your car — we look at the internal condition, sidewall integrity, previous repairs, and age. If a tyre does not pass, it does not get sold. A cheap tyre that is not safe is not a bargain.
What it costs
Used tyres at our Southport workshop start from $35 fitted. Most customers save up to 85% compared with the equivalent new tyre price.
We also stock new tyres across every budget, and we will beat any written quote — so if you are weighing up new against used, bring the quote in and we will show you both options side by side. Afterpay, Zip and humm are all available if you would rather spread the cost.
What is included when we fit them
Every used tyre we sell is fitted, balanced and the old tyre disposed of for you. Most used tyre jobs are done while you wait.
Two things worth knowing:
- If you are replacing tyres in pairs, we always recommend fitting them to the same axle so grip stays balanced side to side.
- If the tyres you are replacing wore unevenly, that is usually a sign of an alignment problem. Fitting fresh rubber to a car that is out of alignment just wears the new tyres out the same way. Ask us to check it — see wheel alignment.
If you would rather go new, our tyre replacement service covers the full range, and you can see the brands we supply.

Used tyre questions we get asked
Are second hand tyres safe?
A properly inspected used tyre with plenty of tread is safe. The risk with used tyres comes from buyers picking up something with barely legal tread or hidden internal damage. Every tyre we sell is inspected first and starts at 75% tread.
How long will a used tyre last?
It depends on the tread you start with and how you drive, but a tyre bought at 75% tread has most of its life ahead of it. For many drivers that is several years of normal use.
Can I buy just one used tyre?
Yes — that is one of the most common reasons people buy used. If you have damaged a single tyre and the other three are fine, replacing one is sensible. We will match it as closely as we can to what is already on the car.
Do you have my size in stock?
Probably, but stock changes daily. Call us with the numbers on your tyre sidewall (for example 205/55R16) and we will check while you are on the phone.
Is there a size you cannot get?
Rarely. We see virtually every brand and size come through. If we cannot find it used, we will quote you on a new equivalent.
How old are your used tyres?
Age matters as well as tread, because rubber hardens over time. We check the date code on every tyre and will not sell one that is too old, regardless of how much tread is left.
