Tyres Labrador
Labrador is our closest neighbour — a five minute run down Brisbane Road and you are at our door. Southport Budget Tyres & Auto has been at 37 Egerton Street for over 20 years, and a good share of our regulars are Labrador locals who have been coming back since the beginning.
New and used tyres from $35 fitted, over 25 brands, and we will beat any written quote.
Close enough to drop in
Being this close changes how people use us. Labrador customers tend not to book — they call to check we have the size, drive over, and wait while it is done. A standard set of four is usually under an hour.
It also means there is no excuse for driving on tyres you are unsure about. If you are not certain whether yours are legal, drive in and we will check the tread depth and condition for free. No obligation, no sales pitch. In Queensland the legal minimum is 1.5mm across the tread face, and grip in the wet drops off well before that.
What we do
- New tyre replacement — fitting, balancing and old tyre disposal included
- Used tyres from 75% remaining tread, saving up to 85% on new prices
- Wheel alignment for cars, 4WDs and lifted vehicles
- Brake repairs, suspension and clutch work
- Log book servicing and roadworthy certificates
- Air conditioning re-gas, battery replacement and diagnostic scans
Tyres for Labrador driving
Labrador is dense, coastal and mostly short-trip driving — the Broadwater, the shops, the school run, occasional runs down the highway. That is actually harder on tyres than people expect.
Short trips mean tyres rarely get up to proper operating temperature, kerbside parking scuffs sidewalls, and low annual kilometres mean tyres often age out before they wear out. A tyre with plenty of tread can still be past its useful life if the rubber has hardened. We check date codes as a matter of course — ask us and we will read yours.
For most Labrador vehicles a good passenger tyre in the budget or mid-range tier is exactly right. There is rarely a case for paying premium prices for tread life you will not use. If you want to see the range, the brands we supply page lists everything we stock.
The salt air problem
Living this close to the Broadwater has a cost that shows up underneath the car rather than on it. Salt air accelerates corrosion on brake components, suspension fittings and wheel hardware.
While your wheels are off for tyres, we will have a look at what is behind them and tell you what we see. No obligation to have anything done here — but it is worth knowing about a seized caliper or a corroded brake line before it becomes urgent.
Questions from Labrador customers
How far are you from Labrador?
About five minutes down Brisbane Road, depending on where in Labrador you are starting.
Do I need to book?
Usually not. A quick call to confirm we have your size in stock is worth it, but plenty of Labrador customers just drive in.
Will you check my tyres for free?
Yes. Drive in and we will check tread depth, condition and age and tell you honestly whether you need to do anything yet.
My tyres have tread but they are old. Do they need replacing?
Possibly. Rubber hardens with age regardless of use, and grip suffers. Bring it in and we will read the date codes and give you a straight answer.
Can I get a roadworthy while I am there?
Yes — we issue roadworthy certificates. Mention it when you call so we can allow the time.
